Abstract

Knowledge of forest productivity is fundamental for making strategic decisions in forest management. Site productivity is a quantitative assessment of plant biomass productivity and includes two concepts: 1) current stand productivity, 2) potential productivity possibilities. Potential productivity of the habitat is of particular importance when determining species composition of tree stands and may be helpful in determining potential, current and future areas of forest- forming species occurrence and also may give a scientific argument in ongoing discussion concerning criteria for determining natural ranges of forest tree species.
