Porównanie długości okresu międzywycieleniowego w oborach produkcyjnych z wykorzystaniem metody oceny hodowlanej A4

Abstract

The objective of this study was to compare calving interval in production farms with herds of 20 to 150 cows, using the A4 recording method. Polish Holstein-Friesian cows of Black-and-White and Red-and-White variety were investigated. The study used A4 recording data provided by the Polish Federation of Cattle Breeders and Milk Producers for 2016. Herds were divided by size into three groups: up to 20, from 21 to 50, and from 51 to 150 cows per herd. The average length of calving interval was compared within and between groups. 305-day lactation milk yield, and milk fat and protein percentage were compared. The length of calving interval increased with increasing number of animals per herd. Calving interval extended beyond 405 days was found in 78% of the farms with up to 20 cows. Extended calving interval occurred in 80.6% of the farms with 21-50 cows and in 84% of the farms with 51-150 cows. STATISTICA 12® software package was used to compare the above traits. The observations determined breeding trends for calving interval in the Wielkopolskie province by using the A4 recording scheme. There were no significant differences in the prolonged calving and in the milk fat and protein percentage. The longest calving interval (>510 days) was recorded for groups up to 20 cows per herd. The present study showed a positive effect of the extended calving interval on milk yield.
