Differentiation of the hygrothermal conditions in the barn during hot weather

Abstract

The paper discusses how changes of temperature and relative air humidity inside a free stall barn influence the welfare of cows divided into 3 technological groups during a hot summer. The influence of selected microclimate parameters in the barn has been determined with the help of THI index, which the calculated values indicate that occurred cows heat stress. It also point out the need to determine THI index for various zones related with saying by particular technological groups. The authors highlight that the THI index is quite a useful tool for predicting heat stress in particular areas of the barn. Yet, it is necessary to improve the methodology of THI calculation in order to include more microclimate elements.
