Genotype-environment interactions in Vitis vinifera - trace element contents in 13 grapevine cultivars

AbstractThe mineral composition of juices made from grapes harvested in 2010 and 2011 vintage was determined. Cultivars notably influenced the measured elements. The lowest values for Cu and Fe were noted for cvs. ‘Sibera’ and ‘Aurora’ (0.27 and 0.29 mg Cu kg-1 f.w., 0.71 and 0.76 mg Fe kg-1 f.w., respectively), whereas the Polish cultivar ‘Jutrzenka’ had the highest results (0.61 mg Cu kg-1 f.w. and 3.25 mg Fe kg-1 f.w.). American variety ‘Svenson Red’ was the richest in Zn (15.8 mg Zn kg-1 f.w.), and the rest was in the range from 0.84 (‘Bianca’) to 9.7 mg Zn kg-1 f.w. (‘Marechal Foch’). The grapes from these vines had also a high Cr level (0.029 mg Cr kg-1 f.w.). ‘Frontenac’ and ‘Marechal Foch’ grape juices revealed twice more Cd than the rest of the cultivars (0.030 and 0.034 mg Cd kg-1 f.w. as compared to 0.007-0.015 mg Cd kg-1 f.w.). ‘Rondo’ variety increased Ba and Sr accumulation. The mean values for this cultivar were as follows: 0.19 mg Ba kg-1 f.w. (the rest: 0.02-0.11 mg kg-1 Ba f.w.), 0.80 mg Sr kg-1 f.w. (the rest: 0.05-0.52 Sr kg-1 f.w.). The influences of vintage on mineral grape content, as well as correlation between investigated elements were also discussed in this paper.
