Abstract in original languageStratygraphical survey was carried out on forest and mid-forest peatlands of the Torzymska Plain (Poland), situated in the Ilanka River valley within the area of the Busko Lake (called the Rzepińskie Lake) and Torzym city and also in the area up from the river valley. To investigate peat deposits 43 objects were selected among which 10 were situated in the Ilank River Valley. Analysis of different cross sections of peatlands in the Ilanka River Valley discovered that flow-through lakes which had formed in glacial channels were most often filled in by calcareous gyttja and fen peat. Sandy mineral substratum was covered by a thick layer of gyttja deposits, which sealed the bottom of the lakes and protected peatlands against excessive lowering of ground water level. Besides, on the area of investigations many interesting peatlands in terms of their geomorphological position and stratigraphy were listed.
