Abstract

The paper presents the scientific research on the territory of the Tatra National Park (TANAP). In addition to the previous study, it also describes an overview of the contemporary zoological research, which contributes to the spreading the knowledge about the Tatra’s fauna. Long period the research institutes and museum of the TANAP have been involved in the post-calamitous research on the succession of small terrestrial mammals. This research confirmed a significant impact of successive changes in vegetation as well as the characteristics of the environment on the population dynamics of micromamals. The current research mainly analysed the health status of selected animal species but also on their potential as a source of infection for visitors of the TANAP as well as bioindicators of environmental quality. Our research is targeted on the parasitic fauna of carnivores on the territory of the TANAP. WE confirm new parasitic diseases of animals which in some cases transmissible to humans for instance dirofilariasis, angiostrongylosis, thelazicosis, hepatic capillary disease. At the same time we analysed helminths of the Tatra Mountain Chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra tatrica Blahout, 1972) and the Tatra Mountain Marmots Marmota marmot latirostris (Kratochvil 1961). We observed higher incidence of Chamois bands of the Anoplocephalidae family, whose cycle also depends on oribatid mites (Oribatida). Nematodes of the genus Teladorsagia and Marshallagia marshalli and Nematodirus filicollis have also been confirmed. Simultaneously, the research identified the common species of parasites and the route of their transmission in wild game-like parasites such as: chamois, deer, roe deer in the territory of the TANAP. Parasite Ashworthius sidemi seems to be a risky species threatening the population of chamois. The obtained results contribute to a wider knowledge of Tatras fauna and also to the prevention of its protection.
