Wpływ zakładów magnezytowych w Ropczycach na zawartość magnezu i chromu w płodach rolnych
AbstractThe objective of this study was to determine the influence of a Magnesite Plant on magnesium (Mg) and chromium (Cr) content in agricultural products as well as choosen heavy metals (Cd, Pb, Cu and Zn) content. Samples were taken mainly from three experimental plots N, NE and E; from the region 12 km up to the Magnesite Plant. Experiment was carried out for three years 1988-90. The edible and fodder parts of the following plants: cereals, grasses, potatoe, turnip, red beetroot, mangel, cauliflower, cabbage, maize, clover, rutabaga, carrot and apple; had been analysed. Metal contents were determined by ASA method. The same analysis were conducted in soil (as feeding ground) samples. Plants and soil samples came from the same points of experimental plots 250, 500, 1000, 3000, 6000 and 12.000 m distant from plant emittors. Metals contents were analysed in following layers of soil profile: 0 - 20 cm, 20 - 50 cm, 50 - 80 cm, 80 - 110 cm and 110 - 150 cm. The long-therm, mean values as well as the maximum metals content were stalistically evaluated as a function of a distant from emittors. Results given in bar charts were compared to the results obtained by other authors and to national legislation. It has been proved an evident influence of dust emission from the Magnesite Plant on surrounding environment. The dust consisted of magnesium (about 40 %) and chromium (3,7 %). Other metals like zinc, lead, copper and cadmium were found in tracy amount. Plants (mainly their tops), cultivated up to 1 km distant from the plant contained considerable higher metals contents then these cultivated in longer distance. Magnesite dust pollution lower soil acidity and indirectly. seriousely reduce absorption of analysed metals in roots of plants. I has been found that magnesium and chromium content in upper layer of soil had an evident tendency to decrease as the distant from the plant arose. For other metals, changes in their concentration did not depended unquestionable on the distant from the plant and could be evaluated as normal ( Cu and Pb ) or slightly higher ( Cd and Zn according to limits. Dust emission from the Magnesite Plant has been considerable reduced lately; however, they should still improve a dust tightness of a production line.
