Abstract

There are many active enzymes in the blood serum which originate from Various types of systemic tissue. A number of studies have shown that the levels of some enzymes in the blood serum and blood cells are af hereditary nature. Blood samples were taken in the summer season (August) and in the autumn (October) from a total of 269 pure-blood Arab mares bred in the polish studs Bianca, Janów Podlaski, Kurozwęki and Michałów. The albumin and transferrin polymorphism was determined in the blood sera by the method of horizontal electrophoresis in starch gel. Ire addition, the levels of ceruleplasmin (Cp), alkaline (AP) and acid {Ace) phosphatase as well as amylase (Am) activities were determined. The occurrence of two albumin allels (F, S) and four of transferrin (D, F, H, 0) as well as three albumin genotypes and nine of transrerrin was stated. A probability of parentage exclusion based on albu¬iin and transferrin was accounted for 38.54 %. It was shown that the activity levels of Cp, AP and Am were highlysignificantly affected and that of AcP significantly affected by a season (summer and winter feeding seasons}. The environmental factor attachement to the stud) had a highly significant or significant effect on the levels of Cp, AcP and Am activities in mares. The level of m activity was the lowest in mares after abortion and those before rating. Race-mares, coming in first after to fourth to the winning-post, had the higher level (highly significant) of Cp activity compared to the rest of mares. Between mare groups, formed according to an¬cestry of sire and dam, differences in the levels of Cp activity were Mitistically highly significant or significant. The statistically significant differences have also occurend in the levels of An activity between groups of mares born from various dams.
