AbstractThe paper deals with the flow resistance in the alluvial channels and its Influence on the velocity of mountain rivers. Basically, there are two kinds of beds: a/ a bed without sediment movement, b/ a bed with moving sediment. The experiments were carried out in the channels with coarse beds whioh meant that ripples, dunes and similar forms did not exist. Obviously, there exists a clear division between moving and not moving river beds as gravel in the lower parts of water creates an armouring the bed. As the balance has a decisive influence on the resistancb, it seems important to define the boundary conditions. In order to define the boundary parameters, the Shields parameter may by employed. Flow resistance may be divided into two parts : f', reffering to the graining and f" referring to the transport of the material. Total frictiaafe is f f' + f". Einstein-Barbarosse give the effect of the resistance coefficient in relation to the parameter The author proposes another curve similar those of 1.Veiga's and Da Cunha’s in channels with comparatively coarse bed material. The author also proposes a new formula for the computation of the value t/Ks in the alluvial channels with sediment transport.
